LandMobil: around 150 project ideas on how mobility can be improved in rural regions

Mobility services are a very important element in ensuring that rural areas and their communities remain attractive for people and businesses. They ensure the accessibility of the workplace, local public services, medical treatment, and educational, cultural and leisure activities.

The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) has issued a call for project proposals entitled “LandMobil – mobility in rural areas”. It has been issued to recruit stakeholders for the implementation of exemplary projects that may contribute to improving the mobility of people in rural regions. The Rural Development Competence Centre (KomLe) at the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE) received about 150 project proposals; 50 of them have been asked to submit an application. LandMobil is one element of the Federal Rural Development Scheme (BULE), which is being implemented by the KomLe on behalf of the BMEL.

The programme supports model and demonstration projects that implement mobility solutions, preferably with novel approaches, engage new rural development stakeholders or implement existing ideas with innovative means, thus serving as groundbreaking examples for others.

A broad range of ideas for rural mobility

The submitted proposals cover a broad range of possible solutions for rural mobility. They include, for instance, on-demand solutions (flexible, needs-based routes in public transport), the joint use of vehicles (car sharing), the matching of drivers and passengers (ride sharing), integrated mobility management (in order to inform, coordinate and advise users) or creative participation processes for the development of needs-based mobility solutions.
