EU Common Agricultural Policy - 2014 to 2020

Date 2020.03.03

In 2019, the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture had two reasons to celebrate. It was the one hundredth anniversary of the founding of the Reich Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and the seventieth anniversary of the creation of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture after the 2nd World War. The first and prime aim at the time was to ensure there was enough food for the needy population. Agriculture and agricultural policy were also in the vanguard of European integration. Productive agriculture, market stabilisation, security of supplies and reasonable consumer prices were enshrined in the Treaty of Rome of 1957 as goals of a Common Agricultural Policy. This makes the CAP one of the foundations of European integration and the internal market.
