Statement by Christian Schmidt, Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture, at G20 Agriculture Ministers' meeting
Check against delivery!
I would like to thank the Chinese G20 Presidency for their thorough preparation of this Meeting of Agriculture Ministers.
In order to ensure food security we need modern, efficient and sustainable agriculture that drives innovation.
Information and communications technology is essential in the agri-food sector for exploiting additional potential and sharing expertise both at a global level and along the value chain.
With this topic the Chinese Presidency has therefore highlighted a very important point.
However, we do not just need innovative technical solutions for "agriculture 4.0", we also need a consensus on common standards and internet governance matters.
Agriculture is increasingly taking up centre stage on global issues such as food security as a contributing factor to political stability or climate change.
It is therefore only logical that in the declaration we have also agreed to conduct regular dialogue with each other on agricultural policy issues.
Thank you very much!
