Minister Alois Rainer

Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture

Federal Minister Alois Rainer has been head of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture since May 2025. Within the Federal Government, the Federal Minister is competent for structuring German food and agricultural policy.

Born in Straubing on 7 January 1965; Roman-Catholic; married and father of two sons 

1971 to 1980              Primary and lower secondary school in Haibach 

1980 to 1983              Vocational training as a butcher 

1983 to 1984              Basic military service 

1986                           Qualification as master butcher 

1987                           Marriage and taking over of parents’ agricultural holding 

1989                           Became a member of CSU (Christian Social Union) 

1996 to 2013              Mayor of the municipality of Haibach 

Since 2002                 District councillor for the district of Straubing-Bogen 

2013                           Elected to the German Bundestag, directly elected in the constituency of Straubing, re-elected in 2017, 2021 and 2025 

2021 to 2025              Chair of the Finance Committee of the German Bundestag 

Since May 2025         Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture
