Raising awareness and increasing the use of the committee on World Food Security's policy products
The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) supports food security and nutrition (FSN) worldwide through the development and endorsement of policy recommendations and guidance.
Validity period:
January 2024 – October 2025
Budget:
USD 499 969
Promotion
The promotion of the use of these guiding documents is a crucial success factor for the CFS to deliver against its mandate. Therefore, efforts to analyse past and ongoing uptake exercises and to report on and disseminate the outcomes of these activities are critical. This project seeks to increase understanding of the CFS through outreach activities and to support national FSN stakeholders in translating the guidance and recommendations found in CFS policy products into locally applicable tools through the development and dissemination of manuals and guides, as well as a series of interactive and informative virtual and in-person sessions.
Goal
The overarching aim of the project is to support national policymakers and other stakeholders working in the area of FSN, including parliamentarians, technical policy advisors and others, in transforming CFS policy guidance into actionable technical and practical tools. The project will focus on different CFS policy instruments, namely: the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security, the Voluntary Guidelines on Gender Equality and Women’s and Girls’ Empowerment in the context of Food Security and Nutrition, the Voluntary Guidelines to Support the Progressive Realization of the Right to Adequate Food in the Context of National Food Security, the Principles for Responsible Investment in Agriculture and Food Systems, and the Policy recommendations on Promoting Youth Engagement and Employment in Agriculture and Food Systems for Food Security and Nutrition.
Impact
The results of this project are expected to increase both the visibility of the CFS and actions related to its policy guidelines and recommendations.
Approach
- Technical guidance on the application of CFS policy instruments to identify different patterns and key drivers of use and to understand the main factors of success and challenges influencing their use at national, regional and international levels.
- In-person workshops and awareness-raising events led by technical specialists and facilitators to promote behavioural and attitudinal changes; transfer knowledge, techniques and tools; and enhance skills to support the application of CFS recommendations.
- Policy-dialogue sessions to allow for decision-makers from all over the world to discuss issues and exchange experiences, creating consensus for action supported by political will.
- Mapping and analyses of existing national policies and strategies that integrate priorities and recommendations indicated in CFS policy instruments and identification of existing technical tools that could support the implementation of these recommendations.
- Communication materials for the dissemination and promotion of broader awareness of the content of CFS policy instruments, including videos illustrating the different thematic areas covered.
