Ukraine – Agricultural vocational training – FABU

Improving the methods of practice-orientated training at agricultural colleges and introducing elements of dual training.

Agriculture in Ukraine

Agriculture is a core sector of the Ukrainian economy. Practice-orientated training is essential to equip skilled workers with the necessary skills and knowledge. While the teaching of theoretical knowledge at agricultural colleges is generally recognised, the training of practical knowledge and skills is generally inadequate.

Portrait Ukraine

The surface area of Ukraine is 603 700 km2, of which about half consists of arable land.

Of the approximately 42 million inhabitants, more than 14 % work in agriculture. The contribution of agricultural to GDP was more than 10 % in 2022. About 25 % of the world’s black earth soils are found in Ukraine.

The Project

The project aims to improve the quality of agricultural training in Ukraine. This should improve the career opportunities of graduates in the agricultural sector. The availability of highly qualified graduates with practical knowledge, skills and competencies is a very important key to mobilising Ukraine’s agricultural potential. The second phase of FABU will focus on the further development and institutionalisation of the project results to date.

Project Goals

• Enhancing training methodologies to emphasize practical application.
• Implementing revised curricula, updated lesson plans, and contemporary teaching resources across agricultural colleges. These enhancements target specializations including crop production, animal production, veterinary medicine, agricultural engineering, and electrical engineering.
• Emphasizing practical relevance through the incorporation of dual training components further enriches the educational experience at agricultural institutions.

Results and Successes

•The curricula and syllabuses were revised
• 55 teaching modules with specialised content were developed
• 21 subject areas in methodology and didactics were worked on
• 8 specialist information trips to Germany were realised
• Over 1,000 teachers from agricultural colleges received practical training and more than 300 teachers were trained in methodological and didactic issues
